Excessive Sweating Affects the Scalp, Hands, Underarms, and Feet
Symptoms
We all sweat – when we’re working out, when we’re stressed, and when we’re about to ask someone out! Some of us, though, sweat more profusely than others, or more often than most. It’s a common issue that can affect the underarms, scalp, palms of the hands, and soles of the feet. Unfortunately, it can lead to embarrassing situations, ruined clothing, and feeling uncomfortable. Fortunately, Botox is a simple solution!
Causes
Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating is a common disorder which may produces a lot of awkward and embarrassing moments for the person. Hyperhidrosis may be caused by endocrine and systemic diseases, but it occurs mostly in people who are healthy in all other respects. Heat and emotions can trigger episodes, but for many it is a chronic issue. An estimated 2-3% of Americans suffer from excessive sweating of the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis) or of the palms and soles of the feet (palmoplantar hyperhidrosis). Problems may start in adolescence, and often develop as you get older. Untreated, the issue may continue throughout life.
How we treat it
Botox
To treat excessive sweating, we inject Botox. Botox is a natural, purified protein with the ability to temporarily block the secretion of the chemical that is responsible for “turning on” the body’s sweat glands. By blocking the chemical messenger, the muscular action that produces sweat is “turned off”. Botox injections are very shallow, meaning that the protein is injected just below the surface of the skin, where it remains. The results last approximately 6-9 months.
