Scars: Nature’s Way of Protecting
Symptoms
Scarring results from your body’s natural ability to repair wounds. It’s nature’s way of protecting the largest organ-your skin! Yet such scars often present cosmetic issues. Mad Peaches Spa provides various treatments for different types of unsightly scars. Using specific treatments for specific types of scars can effectively minimize their appearance.
Causes
Surgery, injury, acne, stretch marks or trauma to the skin can all scar. A malformation of the collagen and elastin fibers differentiates scar from neighboring unaffected areas.
How we treat it
Our highly trained skincare specialists address scars differently depending on the type of scar and how best to treat it for your skin type.
Scarlet RF Microneedling
Microneedling has been around since 1995. It is one of the best treatments to stimulate collagen growth. Recently, a new version of this treatment has been designed, Scarlet RF, which covers a broader and deeper penetration of the dermis, and creates a more effective treatment. It boosts collagen and elastin production quicker than other forms with no downtime to the procedure.
ProFractional
Scars can appear hypertrophic (raised at the site) or atrophic (pitted or sunken). This is addressed with the ProFractional, 2940 Erbium laser. It creates small holes in the skin which aligned to the proper depth based on the scar. By not ablating the entire surface of the skin, healthy tissue remains. The targeted tissue is induced into a healing response; it’s the formation of new collagen and elastin in place of the damaged. This is a biological process and can take several treatments to accomplish the desired goals. Patients can expect to see a 50 to 75% reduction in their scars.
BroadBand Light (BBL)
For recent scars and acne scars, pigmentation variances between the scar and normal skin is a common hallmark. This manifests as a pink or red color or as a vascular or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation which is a darkening of pigment. Pigmentation is addressed through our BroadBand Light (BBL) treatment, which creates an even skin tone as well as induces collagen production, thus minimizing the appearance of the scar.
Micro-needling
A popular service offered at Mad Peaches, micro-needling yields great results in minimizing pores, refining texture of the skin, lightening pigmentation and reducing tissue scarring. 12 tiny needles use pin-point punctures which induce greater collagen growth, resulting in a smoother, more glowing complexion. A series of 3-6 treatments is recommended and is ideal for any skin type.
Chemical Peels
We have a variety of peels that can combat fine lines and wrinkles. As we age, layer upon layer of dead skin is present in the epidermal layer or surface of the skin. Over time, this creates a lackluster appearance in comparison to the glow of youthful skin. Chemical and laser keratolytics are able to effectively remove the layers of dead skin, allowing your natural glow to come through. We offer a no obligation consult with one of our skincare specialists, allowing you to be able to articulate which treatment is best for your complexion and goals.
What to expect before, during and after scar reduction treatments:
Prior to treatment
The treatment area needs to be free of active tanning or the use of a self tanner. We suggest using a zinc based sunscreen such as Elta MD to protect your skin. In some cases, hydroquinone may be prescribed for additional lightening of the area. It is important to continue to protect skin post treatment, as well, to optimize results.
During treatment
A numbing solution is applied to maximize comfort during the procedures. A BroadBand Light treatment is a sensation similar to a rubber band snap, quick and felt once the laser reaches it’s target. A ProFractional treatment is comparable to little pin pricks and a feeling of warmth in the skin.
Post treatment
The treatment area will feel warm and erythema (redness) will be present. A post care regimen tailored to the patient’s specific needs will be provided. BroadBand Light treatments have what we refer to as social downtime, mild redness and a temporary darkening of pigment over the course of 24 to 48 hours. ProFractional therapy can require more downtime and healing, but can be tailored to specific needs. As treatments progress, the scar texture and pigmentation will gradually fade to become even and similar to healthy, unaffected skin.
I went to Mad Peaches and got a partial profractional laser treatment. The aesthetician, Marjorie, was AMAZING. I have had this treatment before, and I was SO impressed. She was patient, detail oriented, and made the experience as comfortable and effective as possible. The results were astounding! (View more of our Yelp Reviews)
